Upon completion of this AutoTQ Bleeding Control training, learners will be able to:
Recognize and Respond to Life-Threatening Bleeding:
Accurately identify situations involving severe, life-threatening bleeding that warrants immediate intervention.
Initiate bleeding control by promptly applying direct pressure to the wound.
Articulate the clear criteria for escalating from direct pressure to tourniquet application, specifically when direct pressure is ineffective, impractical, or unsustainable, in accordance with established first aid protocols.
Understand AutoTQ Device Components and Operation:
Identify and describe the main components of the AutoTQ kit, including the arm cuff, leg cuff, and the reusable inflator.
Demonstrate the correct procedure for switching the inflator between the arm and leg cuffs by pinching the gray mechanism and aligning arrows until a click is heard.
Master the various functions of the power button: power on (initiates audio instructions), quick press to mute audio, and holding to power off.
Locate and quickly access the AutoTQ kit when needed in an emergency.
Apply the AutoTQ Effectively and Safely:
Unwrap the AutoTQ band to form a large circle for immediate deployment.
Position the tourniquet high and tight on the affected limb, as high as possible and parallel to the ground.
Pull the strap as tight as possible, away from the patient's body, before securing the velcro.
Activate the inflate button and monitor the audio instructions, continuing to press inflate if bleeding persists until it stops or maximum pressure is reached.
Understand the importance of continuous inflation if bleeding has not stopped with the initial inflation.
Perform Essential Post-Application Procedures:
Promptly write the exact time of day on the white square of the AutoTQ band to inform medical rescuers.
Properly remove the inflator from the applied AutoTQ band by pinching down and pulling off, ensuring the band remains inflated and secure.
Understand how to reattach the inflator to an already inflated band to check pressure or to reinflate if necessary, observing the blue light indicator for maintained pressure.
Maintain, Store, and Care for the AutoTQ Device:
Thoroughly clean the reusable inflator after use with a bleach-water solution, ensuring the device is powered off and avoiding the speaker hole and USB-C port.
Properly charge the device using the USB-C port, recognizing a blinking green light for charging and a solid green light for a full charge.
Store the cuff in a "quick launch" configuration (large circle) for rapid deployment in future emergencies.
Integrate Bleeding Control into Emergency Response:
Understand the critical importance of immediately calling for professional medical help (e.g., 911/EMS) upon encountering life-threatening bleeding.
Comprehend the process for reporting incidents involving significant injuries and the use of the AutoTQ device.
Recognize the value of practicing these skills and understanding the device's functions for effective emergency preparedness.
